10/3/2016 – Kayak Adrift

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake to assist PLPD with a kayak that was located in the lake with no one in it. PLPD brought the kayak back to Pelican Dock and decided to suspend any further searching until someone was reported missing. It was then discovered that the owner had reported the kayak missing the previous day, so they were reunited.

10/1/2016 – Pyramid Lake Patrol

The SVU had one boat, Marine 10, on the water at Pyramid Lake for the opening day of fishing season. Shortly after launching, a boat with one person on board capsized not far from M10. Personnel quickly brought the struggling fisherman on board and took him to Pelican Dock, then returned to tow the upside down boat to shore. During the day, M10 towed four other boats in distress back to Pelican Dock.

10/2/2016 – Boaters in Distress

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake to initially search for a boat that was sinking off of Pelican Point with three on board. Before SAR assets arrived at the lake, the Pyramid Lake Police boat had completed that rescue, but information came in that there was two other boats in distress on the east side of the lake, north of the Pyramid, and one other possible boat in distress at the south end of the lake. The PLPD boat and M10 went to the east side, while M20 headed to the south end. Ground based units found the first two boats at separate locations near the shore, and were able to transport those subjects back to staging. Nothing was located by M20 at the south end of the lake, so all boats returned to staging.
